Job Description:

Quality Machine of Iowa is seeking a Quality Inspector II in Audubon IA.

Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.

Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management to determine quality and reliability standards.

Records and evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. May perform destructive and nondestructive tests on parts or product.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                       

Must be aware of and follow safety regulations. Select products to be tested at various stages and check dimensions, finish and for visual defects.                                                                 

Read and interpret inspection manuals, blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications to determine inspection method and procedures and allowable tolerances. Conduct first article inspection on parts prior to production runs. Measures dimensions, contours, angles radii, ID, OD, and threads of products for conformance to blueprints and specifications using precision measuring instruments and devices, such as calipers, CMM, comparator, height gauge, micrometer and knowledge of shop math and machining skills.                                               

Writes programs for CMM.                                                                                       

Reviews inspection data prepared by other inspectors.                                           

Inspects parts for results or effects of outside processes such as anodizing, etching, and heat treat.                                                                                            

Checks calibration of measuring devices per schedule.                                                       

Clean and check returned inspection devices prior to placing in assigned locations.

Maintain master file of inspection equipment to include employee measuring devices.               

Assist with reports such as Certificate of Conformance, Corrective Action and Nonconformance reports.

Maintain file of customer orders.                                                                                         

Recommends modification of existing quality and production standards to achieve optimum quality.                                                                                         

Conducts training with machine operators on use of measuring devices used to verify conformance of parts being produced.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Operate the fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment. Reads blueprints to determining machine adjustments and material requirements.
  2. Builds jigs to specific lengths and correct measurements.
  3. Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.  Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  4. Cleans or degreases weld joint or workpiece.  Repairs broken or cracked parts and fill holes.  Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  5. Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from the workpiece.  Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  6. Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  7. Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies or workpieces.
  8. Sets up and performs maintenance on fab and machine shop machines and performs burning work.
  9. Occasionally, may position workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
  10. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  11. Complies with all OSHA and PCE safety rules.
  12. Operates any equipment needed to perform job.
QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED diploma, or three to six months’ related experience (in farming, construction, or manufacturing) or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Fabrication certificate received from a trade school.
  • Three to six months’+ work experience in fabrication or welding.
