About Moglea
Moglea is a boutique letterpress stationery design studio created by Meg Gleason. Meg loves bold pops of color, hand-lettered typography and intricate floral and geometric patterns. She is deeply inspired by her rural Iowa surroundings and the farm where she resides with her family. She often begins each design with a pencil or paintbrush in hand and can’t wait to run downstairs to print it on one of our two century-old letterpress printers. At Moglea, we take great care with our designs and almost every process start to finish is produced within our small farmhouse studio.
What is Letterpress?
Letterpress printing is one of the oldest printing methods and involves a raised form that is literally pressed into soft paper. This process leaves a beautiful impression that one can see and feel! Each sheet of paper is hand-fed into the press and the printer must keep an attentive eye to monitor the pressure, registration, ink coverage, and overall consistency to ensure a quality print. Each ink color requires a separate plate and run through the press, which explains why most letterpress printing involves only 2-3 colors. There will be slight variations from piece to piece because of the manual nature of letterpress printing.
